In January, Purdue announced a major new academic-industry collaboration focused on pharmaceuticals. Under this agreement, researchers from Eli Lilly and Company, Merck and Purdue will work together to revolutionize pharmaceutical manufacturing.

I’m reaching out to inform you of an update to genomic data management standards and practices from the National Institutes of Health, and about a new Purdue resource to support faculty whose work requires them to meet the new requirements.

I am writing to let you know that I have decided to retire on June 30. I have really enjoyed working as your Executive Vice President for Research over these last two years, during which we’ve worked together to obtain record research funding, improved our regulatory processes, and have rewarded and communicated the great science that you have all been a part of. These last few years in research have been a great culmination of my career and it has been wonderful to meet and work with so many of you. 

Welcome to PARI 2024, The Year in Review. And the recognition in various news outlets throughout the year is a testament to our ever-growing scope and impact.

During 2024, important Boilermaker breakthroughs and research developments were highlighted in Dimensions of Discovery. With $648 million in research awards in this fiscal year and a $3 billion active research portfolio,  I am awed and enormously proud of the progress that has been made this year to impact lives and change the world for the better.

The Purdue Policy Research Institute is expanding its op-ed initiative to collaborate with the Office of Research on a new workshop for faculty. On Nov. 19, PPRI Faculty Fellow Kathryn Cramer Brownell, will lead the workshop “Taking Your Research Public with Op-Eds: Why and How To Do It.”

As we read in the news daily, AI tools are no longer confined to computer science laboratories – they’re driving advancements in fields as diverse as biology, engineering and social sciences. This is evident at Purdue, where we embrace AI to accelerate discovery and reshape how research is conducted — all while contributing to AI’s evolution.

The Office of Research has announced a new program that provides pilot funding to faculty members who are submitting applications for a second or third R01 grant. The program is known as the Purdue Multiple NIH R01 Award Program, or R012.

I am proud to announce that after more than a year of planning, the Purdue Excellence in Research Administration system, or PERA, is now live!

The Office of Research has announced the renewal of the Laboratory and University Core Facility Research Equipment Program to support researchers wanting to purchase the most up-to-date research equipment.

When invited to speak to groups, I often talk about Purdue’s public service mission which plays out with many public benefits such as medical, technical, and educational breakthroughs, but today I want to highlight another: competitiveness.
