    From Fluorine’s Position in the Periodic Table to PFAS Environmental Issues

    Join ISF and the PFAS Strategic Research team to hear from Dr. Marie Pierre Kraft, Research Director at the Charles Sadron Institute (CNRS), University of Strasbourg, as she discusses how the specific and outstanding properties of PFASs and of the C–F bond derive directly from fluorine’s position in the periodic table and how this makes it challenging to find alternatives to fluorinated surfactants and fluoropolymers that deliver comparably high
    performances while reducing their environmental and biological impact. 

    She will discuss the proposition of identifying 'essential use' cases, the challenges therein, and how to work towards discerning eco-responsible uses of PFAS.

    BIO: Marie Pierre Krafft is Research Director at the Institut Charles Sadron
    (ICS, CNRS), University of Strasbourg (France). Marie Pierre’s research focuses on the design, engineering and investigation of fluorocarbon promoted molecular self-assemblies, colloids and interfaces, including nanoemulsions, microbubbles, micelles and vesicles, life-mimicking active droplets, fluorocarbon-based therapeutics. More recently, she is also concerned with PFAS-related environmental remediation issues, including remediation of heavily polluted sites.
