2025 Water Year in Review: Reflections on recent rain, water and weather in Indiana

Should we be worried about our long, dry summer? Why do some people still consider IN a 'wet' state?
Join Purdue's Institute for a Sustainable Future, the Indiana Water Research Resource Center and the Midwest Regional Climate Center for for an eye-opening look at the state of Indiana’s water resources during the 2025 Water Year. Our two presentations will feature an assessment of the hydrological conditions based on observational data from across the state and includes a reflection on this year’s climate highlights.
See how 2025 compares to the past 29 water years, revealing historical trends and extremes of Indiana’s water resources.
Speakers
Keith Cherkauer, Professor, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, Purdue University & Director, Indiana Water Resources Research Center
Keith works to integrate field based observations, remote sensing products and hydrology models to address questions and concerns related to environmental change and to further our understanding of land-atmosphere interactions and the hydrologic cycle. His recent research has included the impact of snow and soil frost on the surface water and energy balance in the upper Mississippi River basin, as well as an investigation of the applicability of aircraft- and satellite-based thermal remote sensing to monitoring stream temperatures.
Beth Hall, Indiana State Climate Office Director, Department of Agronomy, Purdue University; Midwestern Regional Climate Center Director
As lead administrator of the MRCC Program, Beth promotes the services and talent of the staff and center. She coordinates and collaborates with other regional climate centers, NOAA, and other national climate service agencies and programs. Her professional interests include applied climate, weather, and/or earth science research that contributes to the advancement of understanding of environmental relationships, data acquisition and product development. The Indiana State Climatology Office at Purdue University serves as the primary scientific Extension resource for weather and applied climate science for Indiana through climate monitoring, resources, and outreach.
