    Fall 2021 Events Recap

    December 14, 2021

Fall 2021 saw a long-awaited return to in-person events for the Center, beginning with a series of outdoor ice cream socials to welcome back, and welcome in new, members of signature research areas and research clusters. The socials took place throughout the month of September, and were a great chance to catch up with friends and colleagues as well as meet some of the Center’s new affiliates.

On September 22nd, the Center for the Environment, along with Purdue Student Government and the West Lafayette Go Greener Commission, hosted a panel discussion on food waste. The panel, moderated by EEE faculty member Lindsey Payne Haugen and comprised of Center affiliate, ABE/EEE associate professor, and convener of the Center’s Circular Economies Research Cluster Abby Engelberth, associate professor of Food Science Jen-Yi Huang, utility director of the City of West Lafayette David Henderson, and EEE senior Madison Hodges, discussed both the science of sustainability as well as practical solutions of which students and members of the community can be a part.

Additionally, the Center hosted its annual Environmental Research Expo on Thursday, October 7th. The in-person event was a success, with over 35 students and faculty from six different colleges presenting posters, and 60+ attendees. C4E Interim Director and Toxicology professor Jennifer Freeman gave brief remarks at the Expo.
