UNSA and Purdue Initiate Impact Projects to Improve Quality of Life in the Colca Valley

Executive Vice President of Research Karen Plaut led a delegation to coordinate the start of four impact projects that will be developed in the next two years in the Colca Valley of Peru. Lei Wang (EAPS) and PhD student Valentina Castañeda have found a strong indicator for the prediction of heatwaves by using Rossby waves. Rossby waves are planetary-scale waves that naturally occur in the mid-latitudes due to the rotation of the Earth.
