Purdue University researchers have proposed a simple solution to potential brownouts at peak times during hot temperatures: air conditioners that talk to each other. By distributing the times at which electrical loads turn on – even by a few seconds – power grids can be much more robust against these issues, with no discernible impact to the end user.

In August, a team from Purdue University and design firm ECOLAND Planning and Design Corp. wrapped up its research on Suining South Riverfront Park as part of the Landscape Architecture Foundation’s Case Study Investigation (CSI) program.
