Purdue researchers to study wildlife reaction during eclipse
August 18, 2017
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Monday's solar eclipse will have most people looking at the sky, but a group of Purdue researchers will be listening.
Professor Bryan Pijankowski and his graduate students are gathering data from wildlife recording equipment.
The thousands of files will be gathered from research sites throughout North America. That includes zoos, science museums and national parks.
Pijankowski said he's looking forward to hearing how nature reacts when the skies suddenly go dark.
"We don't understand some of the natural interactions," he explained. "So, it gives us an opportunity to kind of look at something that is rare. It looks at some fundamental things about animals."
The researchers are accepting solar eclipse recordings.
