2019 Arequipa Nexus Technical Workshop kicks off at Purdue

July 25, 2019
The second annual Arequipa Nexus Technical Workshop kicked off on Monday, July 22, 2019 at Purdue's Discovery Park.
Forty-two interdisciplinary faculty members, research scholars, and undergraduate students from the Universidad Nacional de San Agustín (UNSA) are part of the Peruvian delegation led by Dr. Henry Polanco, UNSA’s Dean of the Engineering College and Co-Director of the Arequipa Nexus Institute. The goal of the workshop series is to increase capacity building of all Nexus participants while providing them the opportunity to share results of their collaborative efforts over the past year.
The workshop sessions have covered a variety of topics so far, such as: air quality in Arequipa, biotechnology theories and practices, soil microbial activities, isotope ratio monitoring, and water quality sensor design and development. Participants have also visited the Southwest Purdue Agricultural Center (SWPAC) in Knox County, one of Purdue’s most active regional farms in research on crops grown in southwestern Indiana, and the Agronomy Center for Research and Education (ACRE), Purdue’s campus-based field research station for agronomic crops and soils research.
The Workshop will continue until Friday, August 2.
