Grants Process Guide

Navigating the research funding landscape can be complex, but Purdue offers support for faculty across various stages of proposal development. Use the guidance below to identify your next step in the proposal development process and access the resources and expertise needed to advance your proposal.

  1. Start with your research challenge or opportunity. Early planning activities—such as center-level capture planning and strategic interdisciplinary research events—help shape your idea.
  2. What type of research? If you are pursuing a biomedical research or training grant, review the Biomedical Research Development guidance.
  3. Are you interested in internal funding?
    • Yes – explore internal programs and apply for internal funding.
    • No – find funding for external opportunities.
  4. Is this a limited submission? Confirm through the Limited Submissions process. As you prepare, access grant-writing resources and write a one-page concept paper to vet your idea.
  5. Do you have a cost share requirement? Review Cost Sharing.
  6. Start your proposal through PERA. Please note that you must submit initial notification of a proposal at least 15 business days before the sponsor deadlines, per the Proposal Deadline Policy.
